Going Green With Your Own Energy Resources

Like most people, you probably don't really think about the environment when you are at home, using energy. Yet all of your consumption over time can cause real harm to the environment. You can use green energy in countless ways to keep the environment a happier place. Read these tips for green energy ideas.

Trim your fuel usage by carpooling to more places than just work. Kids can also form carpools to school by alternating parents days. Those who live close to friends or family can go grocery shopping together.

Paying a little more for electronics and appliances that use less energy will pay you back over time. Even though green technology may be costlier, it pays off in the long run when you see cheaper utility bills. This will pay off for the environment, too.

Install batteries very close to cells when you are putting together a solar energy system. Power can be lost in long cables so this will reduce this possibility. It also reduces shading of the solar shells. Shading reduces solar panel energy generation.

Use geothermal energy to heat and cool your home. Unlike normal HVAC systems, these systems rely on underground pipes that carry refrigerant and water. These underground pipes are used to heat and cool homes. This system is more efficient than other systems because underground temperatures are more stable than the air temperature in your home.

Buy energy-efficient windows and replace your old ones. You'll not only see a reduction in your energy bill, but you will also reduce carbon dioxide, condensation on the inside of your windows and a reduction of outside noise in your home.

Consider getting a dehumidifier. Air that is humid usually feels warmer. Running air conditioners are expensive and they use a lot of energy, so try to use a dehumidifier for awhile instead. You may be able to avoid the air conditioner for a while longer than you may have thought.

Try to use cold water for washing clothes. The majority of energy use from washing clothes is in the heating of the water. Most good quality laundry detergents work just as well in cold water. Furthermore, bear in mind that you will get maximum efficiency from washing a load that is full, rather then multiple small loads.

You can actually save a lot of money for your home if you invest into a programmable thermostat, your energy bill will definitely feel the difference. These types of thermostats are already programmed, or preset, to adjust temperatures accordingly for colder and warmer months throughout the year. They can also be set differently depending on whether it is day or night.

Save a substantial amount of money on your monthly bill by heating each room separately. You can use floor heating solutions to accomplish this, and include one main board that gives you the ability to individually select the temperature in each area. For large homes, this is especially useful.

You should find an Energy Star logo or seal right on the product, so be sure to look for it. Any appliance that has an ENERGY STAR logo meets guidelines for the U.S. Department of Energy plus the EPA. Products that meet ENERGY STAR criteria are usually eligible for some form of tax rebate.

Consider choosing a lighter color for your walls in order to save on electricity. Darker wall colors require more light--and therefore more electricity--to feel bright, so a home full of dark-colored walls is not at its greenest. If, however, you opt for light colors, your home will feel brighter, resulting in less energy expenses.

If considering environmental impact of energy use is new to you, you should know that you have lots of company. Change this by learning about green energy! Use the tips provided to use green energy and benefit the environment.
